Final Product: Music video

I felt that my music video was able to successfully relate to similar music videos of my chosen genre. This is due to my use of conventional elements within my genre such as the location for an example as part of my video was based around a graffiti style location. Additionally, I felt that my narrative which was based around the dance theme was effective in reinforcing the genre of my music video in my audiences mind. Furthermore, I believe I created a successful music video which was able to visually appeal to my target audience and this was also complimented by our anciliary texts.

Final Product: Digipak

Final Product: Digipak

I believe my digipak successfully complimented my music video through the the use of various creative designs on the front, back and cd cover. I was also able to form synergy between my advert and digipak design as I made sure they were able to relate to one another through the use typography for example. however, there wasn't really any consistency portrayed between my advert and digipak design as the colour themes varied in all the designs expect the cd cover.

Final Product: Advert

Final Product: Advert

This is the final advert I have created in order to form a synergy with my final digipak design whilst both complimenting my music video. I believe the typography used in this music video allowed it to relate to the house genre and this was due to the fading letters. In addition, our use of color also complimented the design as it added uniqueness which is what is expected in the house genre. The artist's image was blurred out in a white Silhouette which adds to the creativity and diffrentriation which is expected to be portrayed within a house genre. Furthermore, I believe my advert successfully complimented my music video and this was all down to the conventional advert conventions which was used

Evaluation Question 3 - What have you learnt from your audience feedback?

What have you learnt from your audience feedback?

In order to gain constructive audience feedback, as a group we participated in various different tasks in order to ensure we were attracting our target audience and catering for their needs. Additionally, from the research and planning tasks, helped reinforce our knowledge of creating a music video as we were made aware of all the positives and negatives use of conventions that would appeal to our intended target audience. After the production of our music video we also participated in receiving feedback from   social media and focus groups. This therefore allowed us to better any music production in the future which we may potentially participate in by receiving some helpful audience feedback.

BEFORE HANDING OUT OUR QUESTIONNAIRE WE HAD TO ESTABLISH OUR TARGET AUDIENCE OF THE ‘House’ Genre.

Target audience – (The demographics of my target audience are :)

·         Age: 15-35

·         Gender: Unisex

·         Ethnicity: Diverse

·         Occupation:

·         Hobbies and interests: Music, Dance,

Questionnaire and graphs

During the initial planning stages of my music video I was made to place together a set of questions which would give me the feedback from my audience that I needed in order to make my music video as conventional as possible. I then formed a questionnaire which allowed me to attract my target audience as I was able to give it to my specific audience which would give me the beneficial and constructive feedback that I’m looking for in a constructive, quick and reliable manner.

Why did you create this?

I created this questionnaire as it was a reliable way in giving me back constructive feedback which would be beneficial as it’ll enable me to implement the feedback of conventions into my music video. Implementing these changes in my music video allows me to cater for my specific target audiences needs whilst being conventional of the House genre and reinforcing the audience’s expectations.

2)

Questionnaire and Graphs results:

I created a questionnaire in order to get into the minds of my audience and see what they like or dislike. This in turn allowed me to implement certain aspects based on the response from my target audience in order to make my music video as conventionally and visually appealing as possible. Additionally, creating a questionnaire allowed me to manipulate my results as I was able to hand out my questionnaire to certain and specific people. This therefore allowed me to benefit more specific and relevant responses.

Here are 4 questionnaires below with results. They also mention what it tells me and how it benefits me:

The questionnaire and graphs allowed me to ask and analyse results of specific questions in order to receive specific answers which I wanted to know. This influenced the decisions I made as I wanted to implement elements based on my audiences feedback which would appeal to them. Additionally, the question ‘does dance/reggae genre music appeal to you’ was made on behalf of our initial ideas as one of our ideas was a dance video.

Overall, my primary research was beneficial as it allowed me to identify my target audiences needs which therefore allowed me to implement changes in my planning in order to address and attract my audience. The grapth were effective as they gave me a visual representation of my feedback which allowed me to make a comparison of my results in order to see what my audience like or dislike.

3)

Why did you put your work on YouTube?
I placed my music video on YouTube as it would allow me to broadcast my video to a large audience variety as it is accessed 24/7 on a global scale by everyone of all ages due to it bein gthe largest video sharing website. This in turns allows mass promotion of my media product which will allow me to receive feedback from my target audience which will indicate what was positive or negative about my music video.  This is beneficial as it’ll allow us to better any future projects we make due to the responses.
Here are some comments we received from our YouTube viewers:
Positive
-          ‘The dance moves used in this music video was very good, I liked the flips used’
-          ‘This video reminds me of Run DMC’s music video as there was a close similarity between the two videos due to the dance battle scenes.’
Critiques
-          ‘This would have been better, if the music video was filmed in different locations such as a urban location.’
-          ‘Framing of the dancing could have been filmed a lot better’
What did I learn from this audience feedback in terms of whether I created a conventional and successful music video?
I leant that the audience feedback allowed me to evaluate the positve and negative criticism in order to make a balanced self judgement on whether my music video was successful by being visually appealing to my target audience. My feedback enabled me to look at positive aspects of my music video which helped raised the morales of my production crew as we all felt that we utilised our own time, material and energy in order to create this music video. However, the feedback allowed us to look at negatives which were pointed out such as some bad framing or a lack of different locations. This in turn allows us to learn and better any future projects based on these criticisms.
Additionally, I also learned how to upload videos onto youtube which will allow me to upload future projects onto YouTube for exposure purposes.
4)

Why did you put your work on facebook?
I uploaded my music video on facebook as it is a popular social networking site which is accessed by millions around the world. This therefore means my music video and artist will be subject to exposure which is beneficial as it’ll mean my music video is being viewed at on a global scale. In addition, uploading my music video on facebook will allow me to share it with close friends and relatives.

Here are some comments we received from our facebook viewers:

Positive

-          ‘Nice video bro, like the way editing is utilised in this video’

-          ‘The dancing along with the different camera shots add to the professionalism of the video, good work.’

Critiques

-          ‘This would have been better if the narrative was clearer’

-          ‘The chosen locations could have been better.’

What did I learn from this audience feedback in terms of whether I created a conventional and successful music video?

I learnt that the audience feedback I received from my music video was beneficial as it allowed me to assess the opinions of my audience in order to make a valid self judgement of whether my music video was successful or not. I found the critiques interesting as one comment stated that I could of used more urban locations in my music video. I to an extent agree with this comment as some dance scenes were filming indoors which in normal conventional house music video’s you’d expect it to be shot outside in a graffiti style location for example. Addtionally, my feedback allowed me to look at all the positive and negative points which were picked out from my music video. This therefore allowed me to identify ways of making my music video and future recording + editing projects as successful as possible.

5)

Why did you hold a focus group?

We held a focus group as it allowed us to interview a group of people and ask them specific questions about my music video. This is effective as it allowed me to get into the minds of my audience and see what they liked or disliked about my music video. This then therefore allowed me to identify certain aspects of my music video which was successful and contributed towards my music video meeting its end goal of being visually appealling yet conventional. However, holding a focus group also allowed me to view the negative points about my music video and evaluate how I could of improved it and made it better.

Here are some Positive and Critiques we received from our Focus group:

What have you learnt from your audience feedback?

What did you learn from this audience feedback in terms of whether you created a conventional and successful music video.

I learned how to effectively interview a group of people whilst maintaining the core focus of my interview which was to ask questions about my music video. I was able to gather more detail from the focus group than the other research methods due to the focus group being voice recordings. In addition, the focus group also allowed me to listen to all the positive and negative points of my music video which were pointed out. This therefore gives me a sort of indication on whether my music video met its purpose of being conventional whilst also being visually appealing, which from the general feedback I believe did.

Conclusively, I used a range of different media platforms in order to receive a larger variety of feedback from my audience. This is beneficial as it will ultimately determine whether my music video was conventional and also whether it was able to meet the expectations of the audience. The feedback I received on a whole was generally positive although from the critisms I received there is still room for improvement. As the leading producer in this music video I thought that it effectively targeted my audience and this is due to the questionnaire I put together earlier on during the stages of planning. This is because I was able to identify what my audience liked or expected to see which I then implemented in my music video in order to make it as conventional as possible. Additionally, I personally thought that I could of implemented more higher quality scenes as some scenes were recorded by a camera of a lower quality. In addition, more urban locations could have also been used in order to reinforce the ‘House’ genre amongst my target audience. Furthermore, I believe the feedback I received about my music video has helped me assess the good points of the video whilst looking at ways it could have been improved. Aswell as assessing my own performance during this process.

Planning: Pre-production paperwork

It is important to create a pre-production paperwork before filming for our music video in order to avoid any filming infringment when filming in public. It also allows us to create and follow a detailed schedule which will make sure that we dont waste any possible filming time.

The risk assessment is a detailed analysis of the locations which are used in your filming. The purpose of a risk assessment is to uncover all the possible dangers which may occur whilst filming with solutions on how to tackle these problems.

A Pre-production schedule shows you exactly when the filming is going to happen and also where it is going to happen. This is beneficial as it rules out any misunderstanding.

The location recce is a summary of all the different locations you plan to use.

The location release form are legal documents of agreements for which the company, council or
people give us permission to film in their area.
The release and consent form is a legal document that goes over the terms and agreements for all that are acting in the production.

Conclusion
Filling out the pre-production paperwork has been very beneficial in regards of helping us plan for our filming as it has allowed us to save a large amount of time due to it forcing us to be organised. Furthermore, we went over everything concerning our production cast therefore reducing the chances of accidents occuring.

Research and Planning - Digipaks: Drafts of digipaks

It is essensial during any advert production that a rough copy, otherwise known as a draft is created to give the person an idea of what the real product will look like. Each member of the group had to create a draft for the final digipak which we'd then all decide on the best one which we hope to improve and turn into our final product.

3 created drafts:

My Digipak

Trey's Digipak

Dwayne's Digipak

We picked Trey's draft to use as our final product as we all came to an agreement that it was the most effective yet conventional digipak which would compliment our artist, look visually appealing whilst relating to our chosen genre.

The Drafts

Draft 1:

  • Colour compliment advert better

Disadvantage

Conclusively, for our final production these are the things we need to consider:

Research and Planning - digipaks: Analysing Digipacks and conventions

Generic conventions of a digipak are essential as these different elements are what appeals to and draws in the target audience thus, influencing their decision to purchase the product. A digipak for an Album/Single needs to be effective, persuasive and look visually appealing in order for it to sell and appeal to the target audience.

Generic conventions of a digipak:

  • Main image
  • Sub Images
  • Typography
  • Track list
  • Bar code
  • Record label Logo

Conclusion

Analysing the different conventions of a digipak has allowed me to identify the elements I would need to include in my digipak in order for it to become appealing to the audience. I have also realised that the conventions I choose to implement in my digipak needs to fit the house genre music. This is why I chose to analyse Rudimental and I see them as very similar to my artist.

Research and Planning - adverts: Analysing Adverts & Conventions

A magazine advert firstly, is a print media which is used to market and sell a product. Identifying the generic conventions of a magazine advert is crucial during any stages of creating any magazine advert as the different conventions determine the success of the advert. Creating a magazine advert which follows the generic conventions will allow it to relate to the target audience, as well as making it visually appealing thus improving the artist's star image.

Generic conventions of a magazine advert:

  • Audience Information
  • Main image
  • Title of Album
  • Artist Name
  • Featuring song
  • Record label logo
  • Release Date
  • Previous Achievements

Conclusion
Looking at similar magazine adverts of similar artist has allowed me to identify the generic conventions of a magazine advert. This has helped me with the creation of my own magazine advert as I now know what features to implement in order to compliment my artist and promote his star image whilst being visually appealing towards he audience.

Product overview

who are they?
JJ who is associated with house genre first emerged in 2008 when he was signed by MTA as they witnessed his talent and potential which they believe would one day make him the most talked about person in the world. (Artist name) talents have not gone unnoticed as he has been nominated for countless awards such as World Music Awards for World's Best Electronic Dance Music Artist and World Music Awards for World’s Best Song.

The magazine album concept

What is it?
We need a magazine advert with the visual representation of our artist in order to promote their star image and relate to the house genre. The artist will be initially wearing casual clothing which the house sub-culture is familiar to and would wear. The different location uses will allow the music genre to be outlined. We also thought that since their debut album is called ‘’aftermath’’, we’d relate some of the names to some of the tracks.

Why are we doing it?
This is our Artist’s first ever magazine advert in which we hope will bring us success and recognition due to the attraction of specific target audiences. The artist’s clothing will relate to the house sub-culture therefore, allowing them to be grouped in correct genre.

What is the reaction we want?

We want our target audience to be able to relate to our artist as we hope they can relate to the sharing of their common norms, values and sub culture. We also hope this encourages the audience’s foreknowledge as they may want to know more about the artist and also the song/video.

How will we know it worked?

We will know whether it has worked or not based on the sales revenue we receive as this will determine whether or not it has appealed to our target audience. In addition, an increased fan base of our artist will also help us determine whether it has worked or not as this would mean our audience has adapted and is able to relate to our artist star image.
